Today was just one of those days that we dream about... Bluebird, bottomless light dry powder, uncrowded riding, super fun crew. Wow, wow, wow!
Sometimes I have to pinch myself that I can wake up in my own ski chalet, look out the window at a most gorgeous mountain, ride untracked powder. I know I have been crazy lucky to end up in this situation. It hasn't been without loads of hard work but that is satisfying as well. I am incredibly grateful. I know things are really hard for a lot of people. I catch myself thinking often about the state of the world. I desperately hope things improve enormously for everyone by the end of 2021 and that more people get to experience more joy and less of the sadness that has been so present recently.
It has also been sad not to share what we have here with more people. I miss our customers many of whom are now our friends, I miss the nights in Snowball Chalet chatting around the fire drinking sake and whisky and eating gyoza. I miss the buzz in the air on a pow day at breakfast when the powderhounds are quickly gobbling up breakfast to make it out for first lifts. I miss the sound of our guests woot wooting all the way down the runs of the best skiing of their lives. I miss the stories they tell and the happiness they bring back to the chalet at the end of a fabulous day.
Bring on next season so we can share all this again!
Pic today the stunning views from the top of Madarao Mountain today. Ooh it's so pretty! Also this view looks down through some of the best back country tree runs in Japan. Something to get snow obsessed people crazy excited.
